Magnetic Cat

me at home in the studio

Magnetic Cat is the name of my studio and the the name under which i file the tunes i record by myself. The songs on this page span a time frame of almost fifteen years. Without further ado...

First up is "Grey Horizon" (link). It's about four years old, recorded on a Yamaha standalone hard disk recorder. Poison apple message that opens the tune is a friend of mine who was just checking to be sure. Other samples are from Orson Welles' The Trial. As always, it made me sweat to put down the drums first with nothing else emitting sound. I liked the first take on the lead guitar and kept it.

Next is "Why the Firefight?" (link). One afternoon i was a bit tremulous, so got on the drum kit and did my best to lock and rock for a long time. My goodness, music is a nice thing.

And then we have "Summer Lake" (link). Key of E, a pretty sunny affair. It's named after the soothing waters of the flooded stone quarry i have had the good fortune to swim in for a number of years. I will definitely miss it. Oh, and this thing still needs a bass part.

And from way back (when i was about 15 yrs old) we have "Driving" (link). M. Gamber always got a laugh out of this song and said it sounded like driving, hence the name.

And from the fingerpickin' collection is "The Butter Bandit" (link). It's one of my first fingerstyle songs, this version recorded at BGSU studios in 1998. It's named after my old cat Tangie frantically fleeing the top of the dining room table after being discovered licking butter from my Mom's classy old silver butter dish.
